GNU Free Documentation License what extent did the pan Turkic Movement Contribute To Ottoman Empire's joining WWI as a Germany ally? Q. I was wondering if the general "pan movement" of the late 19th / early 20th century especially in the Ottoman lands was a cause for Ottoman empire's joining WWI as Germany ally... The pan-turkish nationalists certainly believed they would be on the winning side and get some territory or other advantages from this. They probably joined on the german side,as they saw russia and the slavs as their main ennemy on the balkans. Which turned out a bad miscalculation,as the ottoman empire was dissolved after WW1. Answered by pierric - Thu Feb 21 12:58:28 2008 What is the "kenna gejesi" ? Is it specific to Turkish Islam, global Islam or pure Turkic traditions? Q. Or maybe it is just a regional tradition? Some young Turkish friends of mine told me about this "kenna gejesi", but they couldn't even explain the meaning of that tradition,as if it was something pretty secret of private ...For some reason, they seem to be even a bit ignorant about some aspects of their own culture...(maybe because they're living in UK, France and Germany) Thanks in advance Asked by Medellin - Sun Aug 3 18:04:44 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. It is related to Anatolian traditions. In many cultures, the colour red is used as a symbol of fertility. For example, the bride headgear in Anatolia was traditionally red and a red belt was put on the bride. I am guessing the reddish henna (k na) is applied on the hands of the bride and women that attend the wedding for the same reason. Of course, as belief systems change, the origin of the tradition is lost in time, but the tradition itself remains. Today, as global culture enters local wedding salloons, brides now wear white, but still apply henna on their hands on "henna night". PS. Henna is used as an adornment in many cultures. So, I guess it also has such a significance in Turkey, too.
