How do you make a plant roots defy geotropism?
Q. Hello everybody I was wondering how a plants roots can defy gravity, meaning disproving geotropism. Yes I know, there will be gravity pulling down the roots, but I need to find a way to make the roots defy gravity. My project ideas are to use a hydroponics set. First I would put a seed in a plastic clear container filled with water. In the middle of the container would be mesh to prevent the seed from falling to the bottom and allowing the roots to grow through the mesh. As the roots have grown a little bit, I plan to take the seed and its roots, and suspend its roots with some string and a trellis. The seed would be facing to the bottom of the container. A. There isn't really a "geotropism" as much as its a gravitropism. And it's not disproved by NASA. Notice in the NASA experiment there was no gravity, thus taking out the essential part of testing wether or not gravitropism is real. In your experiment you suggest hanging the plant upside down. The roots would just start growing down as the plant grew up. This is because of the statoliths in the root cell that fall to the lowest part of the cell and promote growth in that direction. They act oppositely in the stem, causing growth opposite the direction they fall. How can I clear roots out of a drain?
Q. The pipe that drains water from my backyard to the front gutter is clogged with roots. I'm afraid to use granulated products that are made to clear roots from sewer lines by flushing them down the toilet.

A. Yes you need a power rooter with a cutter head attached. Be advised if you rent one be very careful there have been many arms broken by these machines. Your best bet is to call a plumber.

How do I cover up roots when I have my hair highlighted and colored and can't get into see my stylist?
Q. I have my hair professionally highlighted and colored. I have a big event that I will be attending this weekend and I need a quick fix to hid my roots. Am I crazy for thinking about picking up a box of temporary hair color to brighten up my hair and get rid of the roots? Will this make it difficult for my stylest to do my hair next time?

A. I hate it when people say to not dye your own hair because it never comes out...I've dyed my own hair for over a year and I get complimented on it! You can dye it yourself, just make sure you've got plenty of time to do it...you wouldn't want to be rushed. Follow the directions carefully, and just make sure you soak all of your hair...Or! if you're worried about getting the back as even as the front, ask a friend to help! No biggie.
