Prehistory (Latin, præ = before; Greek, ιστορία = history) is a term used to describe the period before recorded history. Paul Tournal originally coined the term Pré-historique in describing the finds he had made in the caves of southern France. It came into use in France in the 1830s to describe the time before writing, and the word "prehistoric" was introduced into English by Daniel Wilson in 1851.

The term "prehistory" can be used to refer to all time since the beginning of the universe, although it is more often used in referring to the period of time since life appeared on Earth, or even more specifically to the time since human-like beings appeared. In dividing up human prehistory, prehistorians typically use the Three age system, whereas scholars of pre-human time periods typically use the well defined Rock record and its internationally defined stratum base within the geologic time scale. The three-age system is the periodization of human prehistory into three consecutive time periods, named for their respective predominant tool-making technologies; the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age.

The occurrence of written materials (and so the beginning of local "historic times") varies generally to cultures classified within either the late bronze age or within the Iron Age. Historians increasingly do not restrict themselves to evidence from written records and are coming to rely more upon evidence from the natural and social sciences, thereby blurring the distinction between the terms "history" and "prehistory." This view has recently been articulated by advocates of deep history.

A. Well not just ferns, there were lots of primative plant life around such as: Firs: Firs have been around since the ice age so you can say that they have been around since the dinosaur age. They problably even had more primative forms! Fossilized cones and sometimes seeds have been found from Firs! Ginkgos: One of the most primative and prehistoric trees alive to this day! 200 million years back they existed problaby in the forests and had problaby more species that were related to each other! They are considered to be conifers but of a more primative genus. Only 1 exists today as well as a few cultivars. Redwoods: Another specie of tree that has survived time. Redwoods have problaby been around since the ice age and dinosaur age.… [cont.]

Why we can only make informed guesses about the meanings of Prehistoric works of art?
Q. Why we can only make informed guesses about the meanings of Prehistoric works of art? What do you think
Asked by Softwares_911 - Mon Oct 20 20:24:31 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The word "prehistoric" that is defined as relating to, or belonging to the era before recorded history leaves only oral history. When any paragraph can be destroyed by passing it through the filters of ten separate people the sum of the paragraph will be an informed guess. Any oral history being passed from generation to generation is at a apex if even informed guesses hold the minimum of the full meaning of the original oral history. Art is interpreted by each person who views it. When the oral explantion of what they believe of the art meaning begins its travel, it also begins to degrade.

Is it wrong for me to feel excited by fights between CGI prehistoric animals on TV?
Q. Like if a show simulated some intense battles between prehistoric animals that were based on some fossil finds, like a lion and a bear beating the tar out of each other over a dead bison, a Utahraptor (giant raptor) fighting an Ankylosaur, or Tyrannosaurs against Nanotyrannuses.

A. Generally, imo, something is only wrong if it creates pain in the world. Computer similations don't create pain, so I'm cool with it. (Well, technically the tv is using electricity and yadda, yadda, but it's such a small amount.)
